The autonomous republic of Abkhazia is located at the west point of Georgia, on the Black Sea. During the war for independence against Georgia (1989-...) Russia delivered a number of Su-25 Forgfoot to the young abkhazian air force. They were flown by russian pilots, of abkhazian origin, one of them having been shot down. Their final fate remains unknown. Abkhazia is not recognized by UNO as an independant state, but nevertheless gained in 1995 from Georgia the status of autonomous republic, contested by separatists.
