In 1954, nine years after the end of World War 2, Japan could again establish a military self-defence force. There are three components : the JASDF (Japan Air Self-Defence Force - Koku-Jieitai), the JMSDF (Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force - Kaijo Jieitai) and the JGSDF (Japan Gound Self-Defence Force - Rikujo-Jieitai).
