Republic of Moldova gained its independency on 27th August 1991, after the break-up of the USSR. It is member of the CIS. This former autonomous republic was integrated within Romania during WW2, before getting the status of sovietic republic. Links with the neighbour Romania are very strong (history, flag, coat of arms, language...)
